DUAL PGM/DEGREE
HKU-Science Po Dual Degree Program
通常係bachelor of econ/bachelor of art 嘅,佢application process 會唔一樣,因為頭兩年會係science po讀。
所以變相來講會係一個好機會去擴闊自己嘅社交圈子;
但係相對來講呢個會係一個比較難嘅application process,
因為science Po係political science 係全球第二,如果要報要少少心理準備。
另外如果你俾人reject左呢個program,就唔可以單獨報science po or 經其他大學去報返同一個program。
HKU-UCL LLB
*application procedures*
for me the 2016 batch applying through JUPAS (may be not that updated hahahah),
i had to submit a personal statement to the ucl-hku admission team to explain why im a suitable candidate etc,
and i was told to choose HKU LLB as A1 choice in JUPAS for a chance to be accepted in the program.
then the successful applicants were notified in late july/ early aug about the results ~
- but the case might be different for IB students, i heard they had to do interviews too
(for JUPAS they was no f2f assessments)
*review about the programme*
- exams
UCL will be all closed-book in-hall exams (only one final exam a year). In HKU, there will be 2 exams a year, consisting of some openbook/ closedbook/ takehome exams.
- teaching style
i would say UCL is more interactive.
(esp for its tutorial system - you only hv ard 6 students in a group and you will always be asked to speak haha) But for HKU, its more like seminar so you might be able to sit back for a bit.
- Extra-curricular-wise
i think UCL has a better system - cause for my 2 years, the UCL Law Soc held a lot of competitions for both aspiring barristers and solicitors - i know hku does a lot of mooting but if you are looking for more commercial comeptitions ucl offers more on negotiation/ client interviewing etc. And I think UCL offers more firm visits/ networking events for year1/2 students (cause its usual for them to start given they only have 3 years for an ordinary LLB programme)
- PROS
this programme gives u access to the knowledge base and networks in two prestigious unis
- you wont have to take conversion exams if you take this programme bc you are considered as a hku student
- CONS
the time at HKU will be quite intense (168 credits in the 2 years in hku, 84cred each), bc you will have to do a dissertation plus a compulsory hku legal clinic placement which are additional compared to ur straight HKU LLB coursemates. But the good thing is some will only be introductory courses others do in year1/2. Also, your time at UCL is relatively more chill I would say because you only have cover 4 core law modules a year.
